This special tour takes you to the sacred Mount Kailash during the biggest festival of the year. Saga Dawa Festival celebrated the day of Buddha’s birth, enlightenment,and death. It attracts thousands of pilgrims from all around Tibet, India, and the world. You will see the greatest diversity of Tibetan national dress as people wear their best clothes for the festival.
The tour includes 3-day trek around Mount Kailash. This is a pilgrimage route that every Buddhist wants to complete at least once in a lifetime. On the first day of trek, we will reach the main celebration area where you will see the change of the poles. During the second day of the trek around Mount Kailash, we will go over the highest point of the trek – Dolma la Pass (5,640 meters/ 18,600 ft). On the third day of the trek will go along mountain streams through a gorgeous valley.

Itinerary in detail
Day 1; Arrive in Chengdu and Visit Jinli Street, Wenshu Monastery and Enjoy Sichuan Opera. Upon arrival in Chengdu airport or railway station, our guide will be meeting you and get you transferred to your hotel in Chengdu. The rest of the day is at leisure.Optional: If there is enough time , you can enjoy a short walk at the ancient Jinli Street. Later, drive to Wenshu Monastery to have wonderful taste of the vegetarian food for dinner. Another alternative is to enjoy the cultural show - Sichuan Opera in the evenving. (the cost is on you, based on your personal preference.) Stay overnight in Chengdu Day 2 : Tour Chengdu Panda Breeding Center and Board Chengdu-Lhasa Train to Tibet. In the morning, drive for about half an hour to Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Center, the home to giant pandas, where you will catch pandas' feeding time. They are at their most active, both Adults and Babies. There's a wealth of information and a panda museum in this 230-hectare park 10 km (6 miles) north of Chengdu. It takes about 2.5 hours to visit this site.Then, the whole afternoon can be free for you to explore around.In the evening, you will be transferred to Chengdu Train Station for the overnight train to Lhasa. The train departs from Chengdu North Railway Station. It takes about 1 hour to check in as the train takes about 1000 passengers. Please be sure to arrive at the train station for 1 hour or a half before the train departure. Train Z322 from Chengdu to Lhasa departs at 21:37, and your Tibet Permit will need to be checked when you check in. Stay overnight in the train Day 3: April-train trip .Spend the whole day on the train to Lhasa. It is quite a long journey of taking a train from Chengdu to Lhasa. It will take 43:07 hours in the Train. On the first day you will pass through two important provincial capital cities in northwest China, Lanzhou and Xining. Xining is known as the beginning of Qinghai-Tibet Railway. Travelling along the rail line, you could see the scenery of countryside and cities in northwest China. The last stop for today is Xining, where you will arrive in about 11:54.Stay overnight in the train Day 4: Enjoy Beautiful Scenery along Qinghai-Tibet Railway, Arrive in Lhasa and Transfer to Hotel. Enjoy the most beautiful scenery of Qinghai-Tibet Railway. Spectacular land of snows, boundless desert, vast grassland, grand ice mountains, beautiful lakes that will continually appear and strongly attract your heart. You will arrive in Lhasa at about 16:00. Your tour guide will hold a board with your name to welcome you at the exit of the train station and escort you to your reserved hotel in Lhasa. Stay overnight in Lhasa. Day 5:Lhasa city tour: Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple (Walking Tour) We are visiting the two most important religious sites in Tibet. The Potala Palace was the seat of the Dalai Lamas since the 7th century. First, the guide will take you to the Chak Pori Hill to take photos of the majestic Palace. After that, we will go inside and spend approximately 1.5 – 2 hours there. You will see many artifacts.In the afternoon you will have lunch.If time permits, you can walk around the Potala Palace and joins many Tibetans.After that, we will walk towards the Jokhang temple. It was build in the 7th century to display the Jowo Shakyamuni Statue of the 12-year-old Buddha at the time bore the enlightenment. The statue was created at the time when the historical Buddha lived. It is elaborately decorated with gold, jewels, and precious stones.After visiting the temple we recommend you walk around Barkhor Street. Day 6: Lhasa city tour: Drepung and Sera Monasteries We are visiting the two most important monasteries in the capital. First, we will visit the Drepung monastery which once was the biggest monastery in the world with over 10,000 monks living there. It was the residence of Dalai Lamas before the Potala Palace was built. We have lunch after the visit.In the afternoon we are visiting Sera Monastery. It was founded by Tsongkhapa’s disciple in the 15th century. Nowadays it is famous for monks’ debate that you can witness. Debates are a very important part of learning and understanding Buddhism. Monks gather in the courtyard in the shade of trees to refine their knowledge. Day 7: Driving from Lhasa to Nyingtri Today, we will drive to Nyingchi, the Eastern Part of the Tibetan Autonomous Region. For its incredibly beautiful landscape, it is often called “Tibetan Switzerland”. The road runs along the Niyang River, the longest tributary of the Yarlung Tsangpo or Brahmaputra River. You will start seeing blooming peach trees on the way. There are more peach trees when we reach Gongbo Gyamada county. Day 8: Driving from Nyingchi to Bomi, Today, we will drive to Bomi and Lulang forest. First, we will drive to the forest area. You will see King Cypress, a tree that is over 2,500 years old and about 50 meters high. After that, we proceed to visit Gala Village. The village is located in a gorgeous valley with magnificent peach bloom. After visiting the village we continue driving towards the Lulang forest. As we cross Sekyim la Pass, you will enjoy a distant view of snowy Mt. Namjia Bawa. Once we reach Lulang forest, enjoy the walk along the high trees, wildflowers with mountain setting on the background. There are small cute villages in the valley. We continue our way to Bomi, where you will see Peach Blossom village. Peach flowers here are larger in size than in other villages. You can also see the majestic snowy mountains in the background, creating an amazing contrast between spring and winter landscapes. Day 9: Driving from Bomi to Basum Tso: Basum Tso lake Basum Lake or Basum-tso in Tibetan is sitting at 3,500 meters above sea level. The water filling the lake originates from Nyching Tanglha Mountain. Basum-tso is a dozen kilometers long. It is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, glaciers, and forested areas. There is a small island with a temple on the lake. The wooden bridge connects the island with one of the lake shores. We will visit the temple and spend some time by the lake enjoying its beauty. Day 10: Basum Tso to Lhasa, In the morning, you can walk by the lake and enjoy the sunrise view. After that, we will continue our journey to Lhasa. Enjoy magnificent views of “Tibetan Switzerland” on the way. When we arrive in Lhasa, you are welcome to explore the city, visit nearby temples, do some shopping, try delicious Tibetan food in one of the local restaurants, or just take a rest. Day 11: Departure from Lhasa. The guide will transfer you to the airport or train station and help you get on board.

Important notice when you visit the Potala palace
To protect the Potala Palace, a limited number of tourists can go inside. The palace is made of clay and wood, and has become very fragile over the years, thus it is very easy to damage it if too many tourists enter at the same time. Visiting time inside the Palace is restricted to no more than two hours. Due to crowding conditions, tickets are very limited, especially during the summer high season. Sightseeing may also be changed from morning to afternoon, or switched from one day to another according to the situation or the space available.
