Also you will see statues, wall paintings, icons, the central prayer room and many other historical objects. The Jokhang Temple is one of the most important place to see in Lhasa and you can spend many hours to explore the different rooms and floors. Jokhang temple was built around 642 AD by king Songtsan Gompo and so it has a very long history to tell. You can feel and see the history when you walk from room to room and the scent of incense and butter lams create a very peaceful atmosphere.

Each and every morning hundreds of Tibetans line up to go into the central sacred room to get a blessing from Jowo Rinpoche (statue of Buddha). That statue is dated back to around 500 BC. It is better going in the morning to experience the Temple along with many Tibetans, you can see so many devotional Tibetans who wear traditional dress and jewelry.
