• Chinese Visa: Must be obtained before your Tibet Permit is issued.
• Passport Validity: Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel date.
2. Budget & Payments
Yes, that’s correct — WeChat Pay is more widely used than Alipay in Tibet, especially in Lhasa and other major towns. Here’s a quick note you can include in your travel guidelines or website:
3 Digital Payments in Tibet
While both WeChat Pay and Alipay are accepted in many places, WeChat Pay is more commonly used, especially in local restaurants, teahouses, shops, and among Tibetan vendors. For the best experience:
• Set up WeChat Pay before arriving.
• Link it to a Chinese bank card or use the “WeChat Wallet for tourists” feature (available with supported foreign cards).
• Always carry some cash (RMB) as a backup, especially in smaller or more traditional places.
• Bank cards: Limited acceptance—carry cash as backup.
4. Altitude Tips
• Lhasa Altitude: 3,650 meters. Mild symptoms like headache or fatigue are common on Day 1.
• Health Advice:
• Rest on arrival; avoid strenuous activity.
• Drink plenty of water and eat light.
• Avoid alcohol and caffeine for the first two days.
• Bring altitude medication (consult your doctor before the trip).
• Inform your guide if you feel unwell.
5. What to Pack
• Clothing:
• Layered outfits (mornings and evenings are cool).
• Windproof jacket and warm innerwear.
• Comfortable walking shoes.
• Daily Essentials:
• Sunglasses, hat, and high-SPF sunscreen.
• Lip balm and hand cream for dry air.
• Reusable water bottle, snacks, and any personal medications.
• Power bank and camera for your city explorations.
6. Photography Tips
• Potala Palace: Best light in early morning or late afternoon.
• Barkhor Street: Great for street shots and pilgrim portraits (ask before taking close-ups).
• Sera Monastery: Capture unique monk debate moments.
• Jokhang Temple: Low light—bring a steady hand or a phone with night mode.

• Personal medications (including for altitude).
• Small change for local shops and tips.
• Travel insurance (covering high-altitude regions).
