This is an 11-day Tibet journey starting from Singapore, combining cultural immersion, stunning Himalayan landscapes, nomadic experiences, and visits to sacred sites, glaciers, and mountains. The tour begins with flights within China, then continues by train to Tibet for cultural visits, before exploring natural wonders and returning to the capital city.

 

This itinerary is designed for travelers seeking a comprehensive exploration of Tibet, offering gradual altitude acclimatization along with cultural, religious, and natural highlights. It is a route that every visitor to Tibet should experience, combining air, train, car journeys, and short walks. Singapore – Chengdu Travel: Depart from Singapore on a direct flight to Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China (approx. 4.5–5.5 hours). Highlights: Upon arrival at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (TFU) or Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU) (depending on your flight), your guide or driver will meet you at the arrival hall holding your name sign for easy pickup. Transfer to your hotel in the city, which takes approximately 50-70 minutes from Tianfu Airport or 20-30 minutes from Shuangliu Airport. Airport Note: Chengdu now has two main airports – Tianfu Airport (TFU), the newer and larger international hub located ~50 km from downtown, and Shuangliu Airport (CTU), closer to the city centre. Please check your flight itinerary for the arrival terminal to ensure smooth pickup arrangements. Evening Option: If time permits after check-in, explore Chengdu’s vibrant food streets, such as Kuanzhai Alley or Jinli Ancient Street, to taste authentic Sichuan hotpot or snacks, or simply rest to recover from your flight. Chengdu – Xining – Train to Lhasa Travel: Morning Transfer from your hotel to Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (TFU) or Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU) for your flight to Xining. Your driver will ensure you arrive at the correct terminal in time for check-in. •Flight: Chengdu to Xining Caojiabao Airport (XNN), approximately 1.5 hours. Arrival in Xining: •Land at Xining Caojiabao International Airport (XNN), which is located about 30 km (approx. 40–50 minutes by car) east of Xining city centre and the railway station. •After arrival, your guide or driver will meet you at the airport arrival hall holding your name sign and transfer you directly to Xining Railway Station. Train Boarding: •At the station, your guide will assist you with ticket collection (if required) and boarding procedures for the Qinghai–Tibet train. •You will board the overnight train departing at either 21:50 or 23:10. Check-in for the train usually begins 1 hour before departure. Highlights: •Depending on your flight arrival time in Xining, if early, you may visit the city’s Dongguan Grand Mosque or stroll along Mojia Street Market to experience Qinghai’s mix of Tibetan, Hui Muslim, and Han Chinese cultures. •Begin your epic train journey across the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, with its oxygen-supplied cabins designed for high-altitude travel. Highlights: Arrive at Lhasa Railway Station in the afternoon or evening. Your Tibetan guide will welcome you with a traditional white Khata scarf, symbolizing blessings and peace. Transfer to your hotel in Lhasa city for rest and acclimatization. Take it slow, drink warm water, and enjoy your first evening in the spiritual heart of Tibet. Lhasa Cultural Tour – Potala Palace & Jokhang Temple Morning Visit Potala Palace (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the iconic winter residence of the Dalai Lamas, towering above Lhasa city. Explore its golden-roofed chapels, ancient murals, stupas, and panoramic views of the valley. •Learn about its historical, political, and religious significance, and the architectural brilliance that took 50 years to complete. Afternoon: •Visit Jokhang Temple, the most sacred temple in Tibet, housing the Jowo Shakyamuni statue. •Join pilgrims performing the kora (circumambulation) along Barkhor Street, experiencing Tibetan devotion, spinning prayer wheels, and the lively traditional market. Drubshi Village – Lhapu Nomad Area – Return to Lhasa Drive ~45 km (~1.5 hours) to Drubshi village. Highlights: •Begin a short hike to Lhapu nomad area, located in serene grasslands surrounded by snow-capped mountains. •Experience the authentic Tibetan nomadic lifestyle, visit yak hair tents, taste fresh yak butter tea, and learn about traditional herding practices. •Enjoy panoramic views from the prayer flag hill, where locals hang colorful flags to bless the land and all beings. Return: Drive back to Lhasa by evening. Altitude: Lhapu ~4,200 m Overnight: Lhasa

Lhasa – Yamdrok Tso – Karo La Glacier – Gyangtse – Shigatse ~360 km, ~7-8 hours Highlights: •Drive through the scenic Gampala Pass (4,800 m), with a breathtaking view of Yamdrok Tso (4,441 m), one of Tibet’s three holy lakes. The turquoise waters stretch like a ribbon amidst snow peaks. •Continue to Karo La Glacier (5,560 m), where you can see the glacier descending close to the roadside, glistening under the sun. •Reach Gyangtse town (4,000 m), famous for its historic fort, traditional Tibetan houses, and the unique Palcho Monastery (optional visit). •Proceed to Shigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city and the seat of the Panchen Lamas. Shigatse – Everest Base Camp,Travel: ~350 km, ~8-9 hours Highlights: •Drive via Lhatse and Shegar, cross Gyatso La Pass (5,248 m) for the first panoramic view of Mount Everest (Qomolangma) from afar. •Enter the Qomolangma National Nature Reserve, drive along winding roads through high mountain passes and valleys dotted with Tibetan villages and yak herds. •Arrive at Everest Base Camp (5,200 m), the closest accessible point to the world’s highest peak. •Visit Rongbuk Monastery, the world’s highest monastery, with stunning views of Everest’s north face rising dramatically into the sky. Everest Base Camp – Shigatse Morning: Wake up early for sunrise over Mount Everest, watching the golden light gradually illuminate the summit – a breathtaking and spiritual experience. Travel: Return drive to Shigatse (~350 km, ~8-9 hours). Afternoon: •Visit Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, the seat of the Panchen Lama, featuring a massive Maitreya Buddha statue and beautiful golden rooftops overlooking Shigatse city. Shigatse – Namling – Shan-Tsa – Lake Seling-Tso – Balgon~340 km, ~7-8 hours Highlights: •Drive north via Namling and Shan-Tsa, crossing vast grasslands dotted with nomad tents, herds of yaks and sheep grazing freely under open skies. •Visit Lake Seling-Tso (4,530 m), the second largest salt lake in Tibet, known for its turquoise waters, surrounding snow peaks, and migratory birds during summer. •Continue to Balgon town, a remote Tibetan settlement where you will stay overnight. Bamu-Tso, Holy Elephant Gate & Namtso Lake – Return to Lhasa ~380 km, ~8-9 hours Highlights: •Visit Lake Bamu-Tso, a pristine high-altitude lake with crystal-clear waters reflecting the surrounding mountains. •Explore the unique rock formation called Holy Elephant Gate or Tianmen of Holy Elephant, resembling an elephant standing under a heavenly gate, an important local pilgrimage site. •Continue to Namtso Lake (4,718 m), one of Tibet’s three great holy lakes, renowned for its stunning cobalt-blue waters, vast openness, and the backdrop of the Nyenchen Tanglha range. •Return to Lhasa by late evening.
