Xining to Lhasa Train (Z8981 & Z8991)

Xining is the main gateway to Tibet by rail, and all trains from mainland China to Lhasa pass through this city. For travelers who wish to take the shortest train journey to Tibet, direct services are available from Xining to Lhasa.

The Z8981 train departs from Xining Railway Station at 12:50 and arrives in Lhasa at 10:20 the following day, taking approximately 22 hours and 30 minutes. The Z8991 train departs at 22:00 and arrives in Lhasa at 18:28 the next day, with a journey time of approximately 20 hours and 28 minutes.

The C886, C888, and C884 trains depart daily from Shigatse Railway Station at 11:05, 16:05, and 19:20, respectively, and arrive in Lhasa after a journey of approximately 2 hours and 4 minutes. Covering a distance of 260 km, this modern railway offers a fast and comfortable way to travel between Tibet’s second-largest city and the regional capital, with beautiful views of the Yarlung Tsangpo Valley along the route.

Nyingchi to Lhasa Train (K6832 & C882)

The K6832 train departs daily from Nyingchi Railway Station at 09:50 and arrives in Lhasa after a journey of approximately 5 hours and 28 minutes. The C882 train departs daily at 12:25 and reaches Lhasa in approximately 3 hours and 53 minutes.

Covering a distance of 4 36km, the Nyingchi–Lhasa Railway provides a comfortable and scenic journey through southeastern Tibet, offering beautiful views of river valleys, forests, mountains, and traditional Tibetan villages along the route.
