Arrival in Lhasa – Welcome to the Land of Snows; Arrive in Lhasa (3,650m), the spiritual heart of Tibet and the starting point for most Tibet tours. Upon arrival at Lhasa Gonggar Airport or the Lhasa Train Station, meet your local Tibetan guide and receive a traditional Khadack scarf, a Tibetan symbol of welcome and good luck. Enjoy a scenic drive along the Kyichu River toward Lhasa city, passing colorful Tibetan prayer flags, traditional villages, and beautiful views of the Himalayan plateau. Tibetan Culture Experience – Norbulingka & Sera Monastery; In the morning, visit Norbulingka, the beautiful Summer Palace of the Dalai Lamas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounded by peaceful gardens, pavilions, and traditional Tibetan architecture, Norbulingka offers a relaxing look into Tibetan royal history and culture. In the afternoon, explore Sera Monastery, one of the three great Gelug monasteries of Lhasa and a highlight of any Lhasa monastery tour. Here you can witness the famous monk debating sessions, where monks gather in the courtyard to discuss Buddhist philosophy through animated debate and gestures. In the afternoon, visit the sacred Jokhang Temple, the most important Tibetan Buddhist temple and spiritual center of Tibet. Lhasa – Ganden Monastery & Drubshi Village ; Morning: Drive to Ganden Monastery, one of the earliest Gelugpa monasteries. Lhasa -Yemalong Cave – Samye Monastery-Yumbu Lhakang Palace. After breakfast, drive to Yemalong Cave, a remote and peaceful meditation cave where great masters once practiced. Later visit Samye Monastery, the first monastery built in Tibet, designed in a mandala layout symbolizing the Buddhist universe. Visit Yumbu Lhakhang Palace, believed to be the oldest building in Tibet and the first palace of Tibetan kings. It sits on a hill overlooking the valley. Gyantse → Sakya (3,800 m) In the morning, explore the historic town of Gyantse, including a visit to the remarkable Pelkor Chode Monastery and the iconic Gyantse Kumbum Stupa. The Kumbum Stupa, with its unique multi-level structure and chapels filled with murals and statues, offers a fascinating insight into Tibetan Buddhist art and symbolism. In the afternoon, continue your scenic drive to Sakya town. Visit the renowned Sakya Monastery, the principal monastery of the Sakya school of Tibetan Buddhism. Sakya – Dingye Xiling Viewpoint – via Gyawu La Pass – Everest Base Camp, After breakfast, begin a spectacular journey towards the Everest region. En route, stop at the breathtaking Dingye Xiling Viewpoint, where, on clear days, you can enjoy sweeping panoramic views of the Himalayan range. Continue to Gyawu La Pass (approx. 5,200 m), one of the most dramatic viewpoints in Tibet. From here, marvel at a stunning lineup of some of the world’s highest peaks, including Mount Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu. The sweeping vistas of snow-capped giants create an unforgettable high-altitude experience. Arrive at Everest Base Camp (5,200 m), the closest point accessible by vehicle on the Tibetan side. From here, you will enjoy magnificent, unobstructed views of the north face of Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. The vast, rugged landscape, combined with the iconic pyramid-shaped summit, offers a truly awe-inspiring and once-in-a-lifetime experience. Weather permitting, the sunset or sunrise views over Everest are especially spectacular. After soaking in the views, begin your return journey to Tashi Zom Village, passing through vast plateau landscapes, traditional Tibetan villages, and open grasslands dotted with yaks and sheep. Tashi Zom ( or Everest town ) – Shigatse, After breakfast, depart from Tashi Zom Village and begin the scenic drive back to Shigatse. As you retrace your route, enjoy a different perspective of the vast Himalayan landscapes. The journey takes you across the open Tibetan Plateau, with views of rolling hills, wide valleys, and distant snow-capped peaks. Along the way, you may pass through small traditional villages and see herds of yaks and sheep grazing across the grasslands, offering a glimpse into the daily life of local nomadic communities. Afternoon: Upon arrival in Shigatse, visit the renowned Tashilhunpo Monastery, the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama. Founded in the 15th century, this important monastery complex is home to impressive chapels, golden-roofed buildings, and the magnificent statue of Maitreya (Future Buddha), one of the largest gilded statues in Tibet. Shigatse – Namling – Shan-Tsa – Lake Seling-Tso – Balgon~340 km, ~7-8 hours Highlights: •Drive north via Namling and Shan-Tsa, crossing vast grasslands dotted with nomad tents, herds of yaks and sheep grazing freely under open skies. •Visit Lake Seling-Tso (4,530 m), the second largest salt lake in Tibet, known for its turquoise waters, surrounding snow peaks, and migratory birds during summer. •Continue to Balgon town, a remote Tibetan settlement where you will stay overnight. Bamu-Tso, Holy Elephant Gate & Namtso Lake – Return to Lhasa ~380 km, ~8-9 hours Highlights: •Visit Lake Bamu-Tso, a pristine high-altitude lake with crystal-clear waters reflecting the surrounding mountains. •Explore the unique rock formation called Holy Elephant Gate or Tianmen of Holy Elephant, resembling an elephant standing under a heavenly gate, an important local pilgrimage site. •Continue to Namtso Lake (4,718 m), one of Tibet’s three great holy lakes, renowned for its stunning cobalt-blue waters, vast openness, and the backdrop of the Nyenchen Tanglha range. •Return to Lhasa by late evening.
