This 12-day adventure combines rich Tibetan cultural experiences with a challenging and scenic high-altitude trek from Old Tingri to Everest Base Camp. Beginning with cultural exploration in Lhasa, the tour continues west through Shigatse and culminates in a 4-day trek through remote villages, mountain passes, and alpine valleys to reach Mt. Everest’s North Base Camp. Ideal for adventurous travelers with good fitness, it offers both deep spiritual encounters and awe-inspiring Himalayan landscapes.

Arrival in Lhasa (3,650 m); Welcome to Tibet! Upon arrival at Gongkar Airport or Lhasa Railway Station, your local Tibetan guide will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in the city center. Today is reserved for rest and acclimatization. Drink plenty of water, avoid strenuous activity, and let your body adjust to the high altitude. Lhasa Sightseeing – Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Market, Potala Palace; Begin your cultural exploration with a visit to Jokhang Temple, Tibet’s most sacred temple, home to the revered Jowo Shakyamuni statue. Continue to the bustling Barkhor Market, a pilgrimage route lined with prayer wheels, incense, and local vendors. In the afternoon, tour the Potala Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and former winter residence of the Dalai Lamas. Lhasa Sightseeing – Drepung and Sera Monasteries; Visit Drepung Monastery, once the world’s largest monastery and home to thousands of monks. Explore its whitewashed buildings nestled along the hillside. In the afternoon, head to Sera Monastery, where you can witness the famous monk debate sessions in the courtyard—a lively tradition that showcases Tibetan monastic education and philosophical discourse. Lhasa to Shigatse via Gyantse (3,840 m); Begin your journey westward along scenic mountain roads. Drive past Yamdrok Lake, Karo La Glacier, and arrive in Gyantse, where you’ll visit the Pelkor Chode Monastery and the unique Gyantse Kumbum, a multi-tiered stupa filled with Buddhist murals and chapels. Continue driving to Shigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city. Distance: ~280 km | Time: 6–7 hrs Overnight: Shigatse
Shigatse to Old Tingri (4,300 m); Today’s drive takes you across vast plateaus toward the Himalayas. Arrive at Old Tingri, a remote village with panoramic views of Mount Everest, Cho Oyu, and other towering peaks. Use the afternoon to rest and prepare for the upcoming trek. Distance: ~250 km | Time: 6–7 hrs Overnight: Old Tingri
Trek Day 1 – Old Tingri to Lungthang (4,510 m); Your trek begins! Cross wide plains and meadows dotted with yak herds and shepherds’ tents. Pass Rachu Village, where locals live off barley farming and livestock. Gradually ascend to Lungthang, a quiet campsite set amid rolling hills. Distance: ~14 km | Time: 6–7 hrs Overnight: Camping in Lungthang
Trek Day 2 – Lungthang to Nam La Pass (5,150 m); Climb gradually through alpine terrain to reach Nam La Pass, the highest point of the trek. The panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and glacial valleys are breathtaking. Descend a short distance to your campsite just below the pass. Trek Day 3 – Nam La to Zommug (4,780 m) ; Descend through a high-altitude landscape of rocks, wildflowers, and yak pastures. Pass nomadic settlements and interact with local herders. Reach Zommug, a small village with traditional stone homes and dramatic views of Mount Everest. Distance: ~16 km | Time: 5 hrs Overnight: Camping in Zommug
Trek Day 4 – Zommug to Rongbuk Monastery (4,980 m); Trek through a broad glacial valley with the majestic North Face of Mt. Everest dominating the skyline. Arrive at Rongbuk Monastery, the world’s highest monastery, with a stunning backdrop of Everest. Distance: ~11 km | Time: 3 hrs Overnight: Guesthouse or Hotel near Rongbuk
Visit Everest Base Camp (5,200 m) – Drive to Shigatse; In the morning, enjoy up-close views of Everest’s imposing north face. After your visit, drive back to Shigatse via the Friendship Highway. Time permitting, revisit Tashilhunpo Monastery, the seat of the Panchen Lama. Distance: 7 km hike + ~340 km drive Time: 8–9 hrs Overnight: Shigatse
Shigatse to Lhasa via Friendship Highway; Depart Shigatse for Lhasa along the Friendship Highway, passing through small towns and scenic plateaus. Arrive in Lhasa by late afternoon and enjoy a well-earned rest. Distance: ~280 km | Time: 5–6 hrs Overnight: Lhasa Meals: Breakfast
Departure from Lhasa; Your journey comes to an end. After breakfast, your guide will transfer you to the airport or train station for your onward travel. Leave Tibet with lifelong memories of its sacred culture, breathtaking landscapes, and warm-hearted people.

If you need help with booking, we’re happy to assist upon request. 4.Single Room Supplement – Tour pricing is based on double occupancy (twin-sharing rooms). If you prefer a private room or room-sharing is unavailable, an additional supplement applies. Please consult your travel advisor for exact rates. 5.Meals Outside Itinerary – Lunch and dinner while in cities, as well as all meals outside of Lhasa and Shigatse, are at your own expense. 6.Tips & Gratuities – Tips for the guide and driver are not included. We suggest budgeting around $7 USD per person per day for both, based on the quality of service received. 7.Force Majeure & Emergencies – Any extra costs due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g. natural disasters, traffic restrictions, lost items, visa or flight delays/cancellations, travel insurance, medical treatment, etc.) are not covered. 8.Personal Expenses – Items of a personal nature such as laundry, souvenirs, phone usage, and similar are not included.
