Tibet is one of the most extraordinary travel destinations on Earth. Lhasa is the spiritual and cultural heart of Tibet. Despite its high altitude, it enjoys a relatively comfortable climate with over 3,000 hours of sunshine per year. Namtso Lake, located further north at a higher elevation, has colder and windier weather.

Namtso Lake Weather

Because Namtso is nearly 1,000 meters higher than Lhasa, temperatures are often 8–12°C colder and winds can be strong.

Weather Characteristics

The climate is similar to Lhasa but slightly warmer because the valley is sheltered by mountains.

Yamdrok Lake, however, is much colder and windier due to its higher elevation.

Ngari Region: Mount Kailash and Guge Kingdom

The climate here is dry, windy, and extremely high-altitude.
