Chinese visa application is very important. When applying for a Chinese visa, it is better not to list Tibet on your travel itinerary. This would delay your visa process. Embassy might require you to present a Tibet Travel Permit. But it is impossible to get the Tibet Travel Permit without a valid Chinese visa. So, when applying for Chinese visa, it is good to list any city in China as your travel destination such as Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, and etc. You can apply for the Chinese tourist visa from your home country or any other Chinese embassies or consulates located all around the world. The document requirements and the cost of the visa vary depending on the country of your citizenship. Tourist Visa: Online and Offline Applications Online application: you need to fill out what is required. Offline application: you need to provide the following documents: Your passport (must be valid for at least 6 months), one passport photo, a short personal information, flight tickets, and hotel reservations (these need to match the itinerary listed on your application). The last two required documents are waived for US citizens applying for Chinese visa in the United States.  If you already have a Chinese visa and come to Tibet from mainland China, you only need to send us a copy of your visa and passport scaned copy in advance. With these documents, we can apply for Tibet Travel Permit for you.  Two other types of visa process: Student Visa: For your student visa, you need to ask for a letter from your school stating the details of the purpose of your visit as well as a copy of your student ID card. Work Visa: For your work visa you need to prepare a letter from your work unit with the details of the purpose of your visit with an official stamp as well as a copy of your work permit.
